A compliant streaming platform for general assemblies

Annual meetings can be a pain to organize, especially in the case of Upgrade Estate, where different investment projects require separate assemblies. That’s why we built Assemblo, a remote solution for participating in general meetings.

Where it all started...

Upgrade Estate’s co-CEO, Nele Van Damme, originally drew this neat little sketch after being inspired during a Nexxworks innovation bootcamp. More than anyone, she felt there was need for remote participation in general meetings. The next step was to check whether this idea would catch on in the real world.

That’s where we come in 😎

What's been bothering them?

Upgrade Estate runs large real estate investment projects, which require annual meetings with the respective investors. However, it can prove mighty difficult to get everyone rounded up in a singular location. Traffic jams, long-distance travel, and other time restrictions can throw some serious salt in your game when you’re trying to set up these meetings. Hence the need for a remote solution.

How did we fix it?

Our solution was to build a real-time streaming platform that allows board members to digitally attend general assemblies, interact with others, and participate in voting rounds. This platform had to be not only legally compliant and idiot-proof, but more importantly, it ought be getting more and more usage over time.

What are the results?

In just ten weeks we designed, developed, and launched a fully operational streaming platform, where users can sign in to get an overview of their planned meetings, and choose whether to join the broadcast or make a physical appearance at the meeting. This way Assemblo saved tremendously on operational costs: no travel needed and less preparation of meetings.

What did the process look like?

After getting in touch with Upgrade Estate, we mapped out the project’s runtime. We decided 10 weeks was enough to deliver a minimum viable product that’s fully-functional. In fact, albeit hacked together, the platform was already functional during the test phase of the design sprint; that’s just three days of work!

Here's what the final product can do!

To put a nice bow on this project, let’s close up the hood of this solution and recap what it can actually do for Assemblo’s users.
